Student Spotlight

Erika Villanueva is an incredibly motivated student. Why? Because she set goals and developed a plan to achieve them. And she has certainly achieved her goals thus far! Erika recently earned her Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA) credentials by taking a course and passing a state exam! With this alone she is job ready but she has no intention of stopping there. She is currently enrolled in a phlebotomy course and intends to pursue certifications both in phlebotomy and electrocardiogram (EKG).
When asked what motivated her to earn these certifications, she responded, “I plan on entering nursing school. Nursing programs are very competitive and having both certifications and experience in the healthcare field give me a distinct advantage over other candidates.”
Erika is currently enrolled in an English dual credit course and a dance course at Mountain View College. She will graduate from A+ Academy Secondary School with 60 college credit hours! That is the equivalent of 2 years of college toward her 4 year degree!
Erika is currently ranked #1 in her class. She says planning well and keeping up with due dates to make sure all assignments are completed on time have contributed greatly to her success.
Dr. Shelton (A+ Academy CTE Health Science Teacher) says Erika is on her way to becoming a millionaire! Dr. Shelton is confident that because Erika set goals and understood her graduation plan, she was able to map out a plan to achieve her goals. She added, “It’s way easier to achieve your goals when you know where you’re headed.”
Congratulations Erika! Thanks for inspiring us toward excellence. We are proud of you!
